Fall Photo Tips

IMG_0538

Fall has arrived in Edmonds, Washington. The leaves are turning bright colors and the pumpkins are ready for picking. Any time of the year is a great time to take photos, but Fall is by far the most colorful time of the year.

Most people love the Fall because of the changing of the leaves. Ordinary greens turn to vibrant reds, oranges and golds. Plus, it's so much fun to capture the fun of leaf throwing, gathering and kicking. (We will just leave all the sports photography for another time)

To add extra color, photograph around sunrise and sunset. The first and last hours of direct sunlight have a brilliant quality that can extra pop to the leaves and pumpkins. Photographers refer to this time as the Magic Hour. Check out the photo my wife Beth shot at Swans Trail Farms near the end of a day at the Pumpkin Farm. www.swanstrailfarms.com

When it's foggy or overcast your images may not be extra bright but they will be more true to life and accurate. Plus, you will not have the deep shadows or far too bright light to contend with. These kinds of days can make the best portraits of your family with all the color in the background. I just try to avoid the white sky in my photos by getting closer to the subject. Bonus… no squinting!

While you are out there snapping away, remember to mix it up. Get in close for detailed leaf shots or take a few steps back for a shot of the whole landscape. Look up to get those bright colors framed in blue or look down and get a close up of a mushroom in the grass.

Lastly, don't forget all of the action in the backyard. While you are busy raking, keep an eye on the kids and pets to capture the fun and spontaneity of any leaf tossing or heap jumping.

It is not just a Headshot!

Taking a headshot is just the first step when creating your image. At Magic Photo in Edmonds you get a 5x7 in black and white and also in color. We do a light touch up on your favorite image and burn it to a CD with a Copyright Release to use in all your business applications. William Buckman, Jr of The Buckman Consulting Group, Inc. used his professional headshot in his business cards and brochures. The Buckman Conslting Group has specialized in business and management consulting for small to medium businesses for over 30 years.
